I began my financial career as a margin clerk, and in 1968 I became a registered stockbroker. In 1979, I joined the International Association of Financial Planners, Inc., deepening my commitment to comprehensive financial guidance. I then spent many years at Smith Barney, ultimately serving as a Senior Vice President. During my time there, I was honored to be appointed to the Chairman’s Council, Smith Barney’s most prestigious distinction and recognized as one of the firm’s top advisors working closely with individual money managers. I’ve also had the privilege of speaking at numerous retirement planning programs for Fortune 500 companies, local civic groups, and seminars focused on financial, estate, and tax planning.
In 1996, I co-founded WSB Advisors, a Registered Investment Advisor. Four years later, I helped co-found BKS Advisors, LLC. In 2001, I co-founded Platinum Investment Partners, an institutional money management firm. In 2003, alongside Mr. Simmons, I formed Brandt, Kelly & Simmons Securities, a FINRA-registered Broker-Dealer serving both retail and institutional clients. Today, I continue to serve as a Partner and Portfolio Manager for the firm.
After more than 50 years in the financial services industry, I’m grateful to say I’ve achieved many of the goals I set out to accomplish. My focus now is on helping others reach their own aspirations. One of my proudest achievements is having my son join me as a business partner. Working with him and watching him grow as an advisor is one of the greatest joys of my career.
My Ideal Day
It starts with a great breakfast, followed by a round of golf with friends, and ends with a cocktail and dinner with my wife. But nothing tops being “Papa” and spending time with my children and four grandkids.
What I Do Best
It’s definitely not golf—though I give it my best. If I’m being honest, my real talent is grandfathering. If you need proof, just ask my grandkids; they’ll happily confirm it!
Little-Known Fact About Me
I’m a Vietnam veteran and served as an air traffic controller in Saigon, where I listened to Adrian Cronauer, famous for his “Good Morning Vietnam” broadcasts.
